Parkhotel Schoenegg Grindelwald

Grindelwald and the surrounding area

Grindelwald figured in terms of area under the twenty-five largest municipalities in Switzerland. With an area of 171 km2 is the glacier village the second largest municipality in the canton of Bern. The area extends from 720 m up to 4107 meters. The village itself is situated at 1050 m altitude.

Grindelwald is located in a valley north of the Alps, which was "in the majesty of the mountainous nature of much more sublime than the Chamouny" In 1857 the Bernese chronicler Albert Jahn ruled in a description of the canton of Bern. He has probably hit the nail on the head: Grindelwald mountain environment is unique.
